Revd Andrew Fitzgerald – Six Core Values of Mission and Ministry – Acts 11:19-30 & 13:1-3

“the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.”
(Acts 11:26)

Last Sunday we explored the six core values that underpin the mission and ministry of Canterbury Baptist Church. They come from the example for church in Antioch, as read in Acts 11:19-30 and 13:1-3. We see in this church, a community of believers who were: (1) distinctively Christian – identified by their persecution for belonging to Christ and being first called Christians; (2) authentically spiritual – with genuine faith, love and service for Christ; (3) strategically missional – fulfilling the Great Commission and sending people out to tell the good news about Jesus; (4) truly generous – sharing their human and financial resources for the glory and kingdom of God; (5) ethnically diverse – telling the good news to not just Jew but Greek; and (6) growing – in number by conversion and maturity as they received Godly teaching. These values paint an exciting picture of what it means to be church. How could you help us to fulfill these six core values? Give of your time in prayer. Give of your skills in service. And give of your resources in finance, as together we “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
