“if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
We concluded our series with a positive exploration of the Father’s Heart for newness of life. Available to all who believe and trust in Jesus Christ as their Saviour, whose death and resurrection brings life from death (Romans 6) this is the symbolism and declaration of baptism. Paul makes it clear in 2 Corinthians 5 that this new life is for now, hallelujah! But it is also for eternity. Paul writes in Romans 8 about the future liberation of God’s frustrated and decaying creation; in 1 Corinthians 15 about those who will share in Christ’s resurrection; and in Revelation 21, about the fulfilled kingdom of God where He will dwell among the people and everything is made new. We can know this newness of life in Christ today. We can know this newness of life with openness to the Holy Spirit, who breathes life into our mortal bodies. And we can know this newness of life in the fullness of God’s eternal kingdom if only we will turn and follow Him. May we know this life and may we know the Father’s Heart to replicate it in our own lives and church. Amen.
