“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” (Romans 12:13)
What does love in action look like for the church? Well for Paul, among other things, it involves practicing or rather pursuing hospitality. It’s no surprise because hospitality was prominent in the Old Testament, at the heart of Christ’s teaching and example in the New Testament, and enjoyed by the Early Church. Biblical hospitality is perhaps counter-cultural but how could we be more hospitable to one another? Perhaps we could champion the delivery of refreshments on a Sunday? Treat some people to a meal at home or in a restaurant/café. Whatever we do, our hospitality should replicate the rich generosity that God Himself has shown to us in the gift of Jesus Christ on the cross. And a foretaste of the great banquet that awaits us in the fullness of His kingdom. With that in mind, let’s pray for God’s help to excel in practicing or pursuing hospitality in the Father’s House here at CBC.
