“Therefore go… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:19-20)
The instruction to “go” is not easy. I have commented before about the sacrificial nature of following Jesus, it is costly and invites persecution. Together with a Western society that is pretty comfortable this instruction is a struggle. In Matthew 28, Jesus identifies two reasons for holding back from the fulfillment of His call to “go”. The first is doubt (17). As some doubted Jesus, prior and following His resurrection, so we doubt Him and fail to answer His call to “go”. Additionally, we doubt ourselves. Like Moses, we reply to Christ’s call with the words, “Who am I?” (Exodus 3:10-12). Secondly, we fear loneliness. And yet Jesus reminds us in verse 20, that He is with us always. As Psalm 27 also reassures us. In view of this Great Commission, cast your doubt and fear of loneliness aside. Instead, GO FOR JESUS and remember that He has the authority to send you and is with you always!
During last Sunday’s morning service a number of people stood to commit themselves to following Jesus. If that was you, please contact Andrew so he can encourage and resource you for this road of discipleship.
